Finding Business Grants Tip #12
Ask family members

You might not realize it, but many companies have start up business grants available to immediate family members, and in some cases to extended family members including siblings and adult children. Usually these types of grants are fairly small (in the neighborhood of $1000 - $5000) but can be helpful to those needing money for starting their business.

Usually these types of grants are not heavily advertised, since they are only available to family members of employees at certain companies. But it doesn't hurt to ask your partner or parents if the company they work for offers any kind of business grants for family members.

And as with asking friends, sometimes you could be surprised about who your family members know who are either VCs (venture capitalists) or are looking as an angel investor. Sometimes funding for new businesses come from the most unexpected sources.
