Women's Business Grants - Women's Financial Fund

Eight tips for crafting the perfect grant application cover letter
Tip # 4 - Never make assumptions about what the grant committee knows about your business

Don't forget that while you know your business inside out and backwards, the person in charge of giving the grants might not have a clue what you are talking about, especially if you jump into the technical aspects of it, without explaining what exactly it is that you do.

Unless the grant is dedicated specifically to your market area, don't ever assume that the committee will know your business just as well. But your cover letter is the perfect opportunity to explain it a bit better.

So be sure to start off with the larger picture, and explain the smaller picture, so they can really get a handle on what it is you are doing. If they don't understand or become confused, you can bet the grants will be going to those businesses that they are able to understand better.
