Women's Business Grants - Women's Financial Fund

Eight tips for crafting the perfect grant application cover letter
Tip # 5 - Layout and presentation counts

A cover letter is just that - a cover letter, and the first impression you make. This means it should be set up properly, because presentation will definitely count. Use a standardized font face, such as Arial or Times New Roman, with a point size of 11 or 12... any smaller and people could have a hard time reading it, or any larger and it will start to look funny on the page.

Sometimes what looks great on your computer screen looks odd when its printed out, so print out a copy and see if you need to make adjustments to margins, the amount of space you left for your signature at the bottom, the way the font and font size works.
